Platon Flow Alarms For Glass VA
Can we help?
PLATON FLOSCAN INFRA-RED FLOW ALARM SYSTEMS
Platon Floscan sensors use an infra-red beam across the glass flowtube of a Variable Area (VA) flowmeter. Passage of the float between the sensor arms is detected, and logic within the electronics determines whether the float is above or below the sensor position. Electronics inside the sensor module gives an open collector transistor output, suitable for external logic circuits.
Suitable for all gas flows, and liquid flows where the float is visible, the sensor is clipped to the back of the flowmeter frame, typically on a Platon NG/NGX Series (normal 100mm scale) or LG/LGX series (miniature 30mm scale) VA meter.
Movement up and down the frame allows the sensor to provide a flow alarm at any point on the tube scale, as required. The sensor can also be supplied on Platon GU or SGUV style flowmeters.
The optional mains interface and relay module is used to provide the DC power needed to drive the sensor electronics, plus a SPCO 8 Amp mains relay output. This relay acts as a slave to the transistor output from the sensor module. Each Floscan relay module has two output relays, and can be used to monitor two separate alarm sensors.

Floscan Mains Interface
The Floscan Mains Interface Relay Module is a DIN rail/surface mounted unit that provides DC power for one or two GIR (Floscan) Infra-red flow alarm sensors from any mains power source. Each sensor output drives a relay in the module, allowing external signalling via the 8 amp voltage free realy contacts. The two Floscan sensors can be high or low flow alarms (dictated by the sensor orientation) and can be on the same flowmeter tube, or on separate flowmeters. Energised relay normal conditions are displayed by LED indicators.
Platon GU Glass Tube VA Flowmeter
PLATON SAFETY HOUSED GAPMETER TYPE GU
Gapmeters type GU are glass tube Variable Area Flowmeters for direct display of liquid or gas flowrate. The GU housing provides a robust rigid frame, suitable for mounting directly into plant pipework, protecting the glass tube from pipework stress and random plant damage. The safety Perspex window gives good flow visibility, whilst protecting the operator. A safety blowout disc on the rear of the housing provides a relief vent for process fluids, in case of glass tube damage.
Glass tube VA flowmeters are simple and reliable in operation, and instantaneous in response – they offer flow visualisation to the operator, and the float rotation gives confirmation of correct meter performance. Standard tubes and floats offer low line pressure loss and a high resolution 100mm linear scale, fused into the glass tube. Fluid flow vertically upward through the tapered glass tube causes the float to rise to an equilibrium position. Flow rate is measured on the scale of the flow tube, along the top edge of the float.
The borosilicate glass tubes are individually scaled according to customers requirements, and individually flow calibrated.
FEATURES
Platon LGX/NGX Glass Variable Area Flowmeters
PLATON FLOWMETERS LGX/NGX
Standard or custom scaled glass tubes to suit process fluids and conditions
Range of process connections to fit pipework requirements
Brass or Stainless Steel end blocks with optional integral flow control valve
Supplied with studs for surface panel mounting
ACCURATE MEASUREMENT
Flow up the tapered tube lifts the float to an equilibrium position. Flow rate is then measured against the flat top edge of the float.
