Sampling & Monitoring Systems
Can we help?
At both AWE and Dounreay, where unparalleled performance and reliability are pre-requisites, RM&C Measurement Systems designed solutions have been adopted as the site standard.
Measurement Systems provide support to their customers in meeting their site license conditions and environmental obligations by supplying not only sampling systems, but also a number of related services. These include; project management, process and equipment surveys, discharge flow-rate measurements, system commissioning, instrument calibration, characterisation/verification studies and user training.
Selected by DSRL as the preferred supplier of sampling systems during an evaluation of their existing arrangements, over thirty-five sampling systems have now been successfully accepted by the regulating body for statutory use.
As a supplier of sampling systems, instrumentation and services to AWE for over almost two decades, Measurement Systems recognise that high standards of integrity; professionalism, co-operation, courtesy, competence and efficiency are the platform for excellent client relationships.
Our policy is to work closely with our clients and our mission statement is simple, "for RM&C Measurement Systems to establish itself as the supplier of choice for Sampling Systems, related equipment and services to the UK nuclear industry".
Over and above the sampling or monitoring system, we can provide alarm panels and integration solutions that allow interfacing with existing DCS or SCADA systems.
We always look for the best technical and commercial solution and recently saved EDF Energy around £1m by upgrading rather than replacing their current sampling systems. Click here to view news item
Whatever you’re sampling or monitoring needs, RM&C Measurement Systems can provide a solution.

Alpha & Beta Particulate Sampling
If you require Alpha and/or Beta Particulate Sampling Systems, then you need look no further than RM&C Measurement Systems. We have been supporting the UK nuclear industry by supplying regulatory sampling and monitoring systems, related equipment and services to many leading licensed sites.
We are able to supply bespoke solutions at ‘of the shelf prices’. Whether it is a simple wall mount panel or a full floor standing suite of cubicles, Measurement System will engineer the ideal system to meet your needs.
The principle of particulate sampling is simple, extract a known representative sample from a discharge stack or duct onto a collection medium for retrospective laboratory analysis. By measuring the discharge flow you can then calculate the sampling ratio and determine the discharge level.
It is this simplicity that leads many to underestimate the nuances of sampling, forgetting the basic principles. The most important factors in any particulate sampling system are; representative sampling and sampling efficiency.
Often prior to contracts being let, Measurement Systems engage with the client and/or end user to provide consultancy, surveying, extract system performance studies; to ensure that the most appropriate equipment is specified.
Gaseous (Tritium, Sulphur-35, Carbon-14) Sampling
Where there is the possibility of gaseous radionuclide’s, such as Tritium, Sulphur-35 or Carbon-14 being present, a different approach to sampling is required; as the gas will pass through traditional filter papers used in the sampling of particulate.
For these (and other) gases, a bubbler system is used; either as a standalone system, or integrated with a particulate sampling or monitoring system.
Every client’s requirements for gaseous systems is different. Many have existing systems where the technique employed has been proven over many years. For this reason we do not offer ‘off the shelf’ systems, rather bespoke solutions that meet our client’s requirements.
Whether the solution uses a reaction furnace, catalyst material, pre and or post furnace bubbler bottles, demin water or more exotic collection media, RM&C Measurement Systems can and have supplied them all.
Whatever you’re sampling or monitoring needs, RM&C Measurement Systems can provide a solution.
Iodine Sampling
Where Iodine (I131) sampling is required, the standard filter paper holder found in an Alpha/Beta particulate system can be replaced with one containing a charcoal pack (Maypack). The image opposite shows an RM&C designed High Pressure & Temperature Alpha, Beta and Iodine inline Filter Holder as a 3D model.
All other elements of the system remain the same, see the section on Alpha & Beta Particulate Sampling.
Whatever you’re sampling or monitoring needs, RM&C Measurement Systems can provide a solution.
UKAS and Traceable Calibration
Roxspur Measurement & Control Ltd is an ISO 9001:2008 company, we offer UKAS and traceable calibration under BS/EN ISO17025 accredited procedures. Our certificate generation systems are purposely geared to meet the strict and specific requirement of the Aerospace industry.
Calibration
Based at our factory in Sheffield our accredited laboratories are available to provide either on-site or in-house calibration to either UKAS or national standards. We cover Temperature (up to 2,200ºC), Pressure (up to 1,200 bar), Flow (up to 2,500 L/min) and Electrical parameters and provide certification using the latest technology.
Our team of experienced on-site engineers hold accreditation for the on-site calibration of equipment including autoclaves, furnaces, thermocouples and probes, scales and balances, ovens and chambers, indicators and controllers, pressure and electrical. We cover the full spectrum of industry sectors. All calibration standards used meet the requirements of Table 3 of AMS 2750D, whether in the laboratory or on site, ensuring full compliance with the specification. To find out more about our on-site services please click here.
We supply thermocouples calibrated and certified to meet the requirements of Table 1 of AMS 2750D appropriate to customer specified usage.
Aerospace Heat Treatment Specialists
From the supply of a single thermocouple to fully managed service contracts, by working in partnership with our customers we can assist in obtaining and maintaining NADCAP approval. To find out more about our specialist aerospace services please click here.
Certification
Certificates generated are designed to meet the requirements of AMS 2750D with the option of UKAS certificates for added peace of mind.
