Platon GMT Flanged Metal Tube VA Gas or Liquid
Can we help?
PLATON METAL TUBE VA FLOWMETER TYPE GMT
GMT metal tube flowmeters are variable area meters of totally welded stainless steel construction. Liquid or Gas flowing up the tapered flowtube lifts the float to an equalibrium position, dependent on flow rate, and a magnetically coupled pointer indicates this flow on an external scale. The large meter indication is easily visible at a distance, with the pointer moving over a 150° scale. Each scale is produced specifically for the fluid involved and process conditions expected: several flow ranges are available for meters of each standard line size. All gas flow meters are supplied with an integral piston damper to smooth out flow pulsations.
Installation is simple, in a vertical section of flow line: meters can be supplied with EN, ANSI or other standard flanges, or BSP or NPT screwed connections.
The robust construction with no glands or seals to leak means the meters are suitable for high pressure applications, or extremes of temperature. The standard GMT is totally self contained and needs no external power.
Alternative materials are available to special order - for example Hastelloy or Monel wetted parts. For lower cost, Brass or Stainless steel bodied meters ½” - 2” in size are available with screwed connections. The indicator can be provided with one or two flow alarm sensors, adjustable over the meter operating range. Full electronic transmission and totalisation is also available, using the VAMPIRE electronic module.
Metal tube meters are ideal for arduous industrial service as an alternative to large glass tube flowmeters. They have particular advantages, where fluids are opaque or staining, or to provide higher safety and security for dangerous or toxic fluids.

GMT Alarms and Transmitters
The GMTX (Vampire) is an electronic version of the standard GMT metal tube flowmeter, where the mechanical pointer and scale is replaced with an LCD to give local meter and digital display of flow rates and flow total. The totally solid state indicator is either loop powered, or mains AC powered with a 4-20 mA output. High and low alarms are shown on the LCD panel and can be signalled to the plant control system.

Platon FV Automatic Flow Controller
Platon Type FV Flostats automatically regulate the flow of liquids or gases by using available line pressure. Once adjusted to the required value, flow is maintained accurately at this rate independent of supply pressure fluctuations or varying back pressure downstream of the meter. No electrical power or external flow measurement input is required – the Flostat control system uses the available line pressure to control the balanced control valve, maintaining the flow rate at the operator preset value.
Accurate flow control is vital to a wide variety of processes, for example blending and dosing applications. By keeping the required fluid delivery rate constant, a Flostat can ensure consistent product quality irrespective of process liquid head changes throughout a batch.
Flostat Type FV Flow controllers are used in flow control systems such as aircraft fuel delivery systems, to prevent the hazard of excessive flows and protect metering systems from over-speeding. On natural gas or fuel oil delivery systems to multiple burners, Flostat units can maintain optimum flow rate to each burner independently.
Available in sizes from ½" to 4", all Type FV units can be fitted with a flow scale plate calibrated for process conditions.

Platon GMT Screwed Metal Tube VA Flowmeter
PLATON GMTB & S SERIES
Part of the Platon GMT Variable Area flowmeter family, models GMTB and GMTS are brass or Stainless Steel tube flowmeters with female screwed connections. With 1/2”, 1” and 2” BSP/NPT threaded fittings standard, the meters are ideal for arduous industrial service as an alternative to large glass tube flowmeters. They have particular advantages for gas or liquid flow measurement at high pressures and temperatures, where the fluids are opaque or dark coloured or to provide higher operational security for dangerous or toxic materials.
The VA meter principle used in the Platon GMT flowmeter measures the position of a float in a precision-machined tapered tube. The float rises with the flow up the taper until the upthrust from the flow balances with the weight of the float. A magnet, electron beam welded into the float casing, drives the external meter indication over a 100mm scale typically displaying a 10:1 flow range.
Options available on the GMTB/GMTS include GMTA) flow alarm outputs for high or low adjustable set points and electronic 4-20mA flow transmitter (GMTX) outputs. All of these are available with CENELEC intrinsically safe approval. For low-pressure Natural gas flow measurement, models are available with minimal line pressure loss. Special versions are available for Oxygen service. All units are available calibrated for the specific line conditions or fluid involved.
